A (long) day in the life of WiFi Plug

What a day!

8.06am

I woke up late, so in my sleepy stupor I turned on my coffee machine from my iPhone. As it whirred into life, I hurriedly got myself ready. By the time I had showered, straightened my unruly locks and shaved off my caveman beard, my vital morning coffee was ready to go. I was out of the door on time. Thank you WiFi Plug.

8.40am

Fiddlesticks. I left the straighteners on, I’m sure I did. Can’t go back, can’t let them stay on all day. Ah! I’ll just turn them off from my phone… which has no 3G. Fortunately, I’ve also got my Google Nexus 10 with me, and I can also turn them off from there. Phew! Disaster averted. Thanks WiFi Plug.

11.34am

Work has been a drag, and now I’ve got the nagging feeling I left the back door open. But it’s OK, I’m just going to log into the WiFi CCTV App on my tablet and have a look around. Phew! Nothing stolen. No strange man running amok in my unlocked home, that’s a relief. Cheers WiFi Plug.

1.07pm

Ugh. I’ve just been for lunch (ham and cheese baguette, thanks for asking), and I remembered I was meant to make dinner tonight. I put all the ingredients for a beef stew in the slow cooker last night, but forgot to turn it on. But no worries! My phone is being used for a Skype call but I can just turn the cooker on from my computer. The wife wouldn’t have been happy with me if I had messed that up, you’re a lifesaver WiFi Plug.

5.01pm

I’m done! What a long day that was, and I can’t say I’m looking forward to going back to a freezing cold house, I think I’ll turn the heater on now so it’s nice and toasty when I get back. Lovely. Thanks again WiFi Plug.

11.34pm

In bed after a long day, ready to go to sle… oh nuts. I think I left the lamp on in the front room. There’s no way I’m getting out of this bed now, I’ll just turn it off from my phone. I think I love you, WiFi Plug.

My Top Five WiFi Plug Uses

Published on February 26, 2014

5. Lamp

Sure, it’s an obvious one, but sometimes the simplest ideas really are the best. If you’re tucked up under a duvet and moving to switch the light on or off really does seem like the end of the world, a flick of the finger on your phone is all it takes. I’ll confess to being lazy enough to make this one of my favourite WiFi Plug uses. It can also have a more practical use, like making sure all the lights are turned off when you’re out. Or, if you’re on holiday, you can set a timer to turn on a lamp at night to avert any potential burglaries. But, for me, it’s mainly about staying under the duvet.

4. Slow cooker

Slow cookers are brilliant. Lump some meat, potatoes and an onion in there and you’re just about done. For those who are not particularly gifted in the dark arts of cookery, they are a godsend. WiFi Plug makes the process even easier, you can set it to start cooking at a certain time, so it’s ready when you get back from work.

3. Coffee Machine/Kettle

That agonising wait for your vital early morning tea or coffee can seem like a lifetime. So I very much like being able to take a few extra minutes in bed whilst I wait for the kettle to boil or my coffee machine to churn into life. I can then spring up, awaking immediately to my vital burst of caffeine, ready to take on the day.

2. Electric blanket

It can sometimes take a great deal of willpower to emerge from your bed in the morning, knowing the harsh early morning chill will embrace you as soon as you leave the cocoon of your five duvets. As you might be able to tell at this point, I’m not a morning person, so I like to make them as easy as possible. Setting my electric blanket to come on about half an hour before I have to wake up makes that arduous climb out of bed so much easier.

1. Hair straighteners

I’ll admit, I’m not one to use hair straighteners – take one look at my not so fulsome head of hair and you would understand – but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand the hazard. There were 20,000 fires in the UK last year caused by faulty electrical appliances, it doesn’t take a great leap of the imagination to see the dangers straighteners present. If you’re a bit forgetful, or live with someone who is, it’s a great way of relieving the daily ‘oh fiddlesticks, did I leave my straighteners on’ panic.

MiFi & WiFi Plug

Published on February 16, 2014

Here’s a really cool feature if you live out in the sticks or don’t have broadband.

You can buy a MiFi device for approx £30 and then have complete control if you are out of range of your normal WiFi.

Perhaps you have a holiday home or cottage, you can still control your electric heating or whatever you like using MiFi & WiFi Plug. This works wherever you get a 3G signal so check your networks coverage before you buy.
